Grammy Nominees 2011

I've only recently started watching the different awards shows and I have realised how important these awards are to the music industry. By winning a Grammy award, the artists are congratulated on their latest achievements and expressing our (the listeners and all round music lovers') grattitude for creating music that feeds our souls. So I have decided to share my opinion on this years nominees.
*I will not be commenting on any of the Bruno Mars Nomminations. I do not like him and his music does NOT feed souls. Actually I wouldn't mind if someone threw a 'grenade' his way

1. Record Of The Year

Rolling In The Deep - Adele

Holocene - Bon Iver

Grenade - Bruno Mars

The Cave - Mumford & Sons

Firework - Katy Perry

I'm actually quite excited to see the outcome of this category, as i think everyone has a fair chance and I wouldn't be dissapointed if any of these artists won. [except obviously for BRUNO MARS]

2. Album Of The Year

21- Adele

Wasting Light- Foo Fighters

Born This Way - Lady Gaga

Doo-Wops & Hooligans- Bruno Mars

Loud- Rihanna

Yeah, this category is rather a let down. There have been so many GREAT albums released this year, who much rather should have been on this list, I mean Rihanna? Album of the year? And Foo Fighters? Nah. What about  Radiohead, Black Keys or any one else for that matter...

3. Song Of The Year

All Of The Lights- Kanye West, Rihanna, Kid Cudi & Fergie

The Cave - Mumford & Sons

Grenade- Brun Mars

Holocene - Bon 1ver

Rolling In The Deep - Adele

I am a huge Mumford & Sons lover and I'm very pleased to see so many nomminations for them, but I honestly don't think that 'the Cave' deserves song of the year. It feels like they have left out so many great songs of 2011, the list seems incomplete.

4. Best New Artist

The Band Perry

Bon Iver

J. Cole

Nicki Minaj

Skrillex

What a laugh. Bon Iver, Best new Artist? Are you kidding me? Where have these people been the last 3 years? Bon Iver is a genius and it is extreemly sad that only now he gets the recognition. I don't like any of the other artists mentioned here, so here is hoping Bon Iver takes the award.

5. Best Pop Solo Performance

Someone Like You - Adele

You And I - Lady Gaga

Grenade - Bruno Mars

Firework - Katy Perry

F***in’ Perfect - Pink

Here, I know Adele should win the award. Vocally she is miles ahead of all these artists and she can truly hold herself, in her own rights. She doesn't need back-up dancers, crazy outfits or anything else.

6. Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

Body And Soul - Tony Bennett & Amy Winehouse

Dearest - The Black Keys

Paradise -  Coldplay

Pumped Up Kicks - Foster the People

Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera

I love the fact that Tony Bennett has colaborated with Amy Winehouse (and Lady Gaga), he simply adds another element to songs. I am also in love with the Black Keys and I am excited to see them nominated as well (here's hoping)!!
I know there are a lot of people hating on 'Moves With Jagger', and I understand why, but one has to admit, it is a catchy Pop tune and you cannot help but move like Jagger, whilst listening to it. On whether it deserves a Grammy for BEST Pop performance? Definetly not. The same goes for Foster the People, they still need to establish themselves as a pop duo, for now, they're only known as those kids with the really catchy whistling in their song.
